Meet Kahani Nani

Dee, storyteller and creator of Kahani Nani

Hello, I’m Devaki, though almost everyone calls me Dee. I’m the Nani (granny) behind the Kahani (story). And that pretty much sums up how this little corner of the internet began.

I’m a mother, grandmother and lifelong lover of stories. From ancient tales to modern Tom and Jerry, I love them all. I grew up with the Ramayana, the Mahabharata, the Panchatantra, Aesop Fables, Grimms Fairy Tales and many other stories that entertained us, made us laugh, and quietly taught us about courage, kindness, loyalty, choices and consequences.

Now I want to pass those stories on to another generation.

Why I created Kahani Nani

Children ask big questions. Why should we tell the truth? Can we be brave when we are frightened? What makes someone good?

Stories give us a gentle way to explore those questions.

Kahani Nani is a place for beautiful stories, old and new, told simply and with care. I don’t want to tell children what to think. I want them to wonder, ask questions and discover what each story means to them.

How the stories are created

Each story begins with an idea, a question or a value I want to explore. I choose the characters, shape the story, refine the language and decide what I want a child to carry away from it.

AI has also become part of my creative journey. I use it as a tool to explore ideas, develop illustrations and help bring the world of Kahani Nani to life. It can suggest, generate and assist, but every creative choice is guided by me.

The technology helps with the making. The stories, values and voice come from the heart.

What you will find here

You will find gentle stories created especially for children, parents, grandparents and anyone who still enjoys sitting down for a good tale.

Some will make you think. Some will make you smile. A few may make you wonder what Punklone, our very confident little squirrel, has been up to.

Most of all, I hope these stories give families a reason to pause, read together and talk.

So, find a comfortable corner, put on your listening hat and come join us.

The next story is waiting.
